About Salmon
In Oregon, “salmon” has mostly referred to six species of the genus Oncorhynchus, known colloquially as:
Chinook (O. tshawytscha)
Coho (O. kisutch)
Sockeye (O. nerka)
Chum (O. keta)
Pink (O. gorbuscha)
Steelhead (O. mykiss)
Since the 1980s, salmon farming has provided S. salar to consumers, and escaped fish have begun to invade the habitats of native species.
